Seminggu yang lalu aktifitas saya disibukkan dengan kegiatan bersih- bersih virus di komputer kantor maupun teman – teman mahasiswa. Kebanyakan virus yang menyerang komputer – komputer tersebut adalah virus-virus lokal seperti varian dari virus brontok, virus Flu Ikan, virus MyLove, beberapa worm, spyware, adware dan trojan. Apa sebenarnya virus komputer itu ?

Menurut situs about.com virus komputer didefenisikan sebagai
a program that can 'infect' other programs by modifying them to include a possibly evolved copy of itself, a virus can spread throughout a computer system or network using the authorizations of every user using it to infect their programs. Every program that gets infected may also act as a virus and thus the infection grows.

Jadi menurut Fred Cohen dalam papernya "A Computer Virus" sebagaimana dikutip oleh situs about.com, virus adalah suatu program komputer yang dapat menginfeksi program lain. virus dapat menyebar dalam sistem komputer atau jaringan dengan mengunakan otoritasi user jaringan.
